Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant

I knew I had to get Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant Stick as soon as I saw it on Allie B.’s instragm thelabeledlife.  Thank you Allie B. for letting me know that the stick was available, you should follow her on instagram (I do) and check out her blog at The Labeled Life if you haven’t already.  I find out about amazing non-toxic products through the lovely green beauty community.  Now on to Schmidt’s all natural, vegan, cruelty free deodorant.

Schmidt’s was founded by Jaime Schmidt when she was pregnant with her son.  Schmidt’s mission: “To change the way you think about deodorant.”  Through research and testing (that started in her kitchen) she “discovered that the right combination of raw natural materials in their purist form could yield a product that matches the effectiveness of the chemical alternatives, but actually outperforms them.”  Yay!!!

I’ve tried the jars of Schmidt’s deodorant previously from some of my green beauty subscription boxes I subscribe to and already liked the consistency.  I can still remember when I first made the switch to natural deodorant, I was a little hesitant about using my fingers to apply a pea-size amount to each underarm, but I got used to it and I would never go back to conventional deodorants with all those nasty ingredients.  The scent wasn’t overpowering, which I liked, and I felt so much better about applying non-toxic ingredients to my underarms because all the chemicals/ingredients get absorbed through our skin.  I have found that natural deodorants vary in consistency, smell and absorption.  It’s kind of trial and error before you find the one that is right for you.  However, I really like the Schmidt’s Deodorant stick, it feels soft and goes on smooth, without leaving a residue or chalky feeling.  Plus, it does the important stuff like neutralize underarm odor and absorbs wetness.

Schmidt’s deodorant jars and stick

Schmidt’s new stick and the jars come in 5 different scents:  Lavender + Sage; Bergamot + Lime; Cedarwood + Juniper; Ylang-Ylang + Calendula and Fragrance free.  I’ve tried 3 of the scents and when I want a milder scent I use the Lavender and Sage but I still really like the Bergamot + Lime.  I’m loving the new Schmidt stick and really like that their products are affordable.  The price range is $8.99 – $10 and can be found online at  Schmidt’s or Petit Vour and other green beauty boutiques.

Non-toxic Ingredients

Schmidt’s does not contain any of the toxic ingredients found in most deodorants on the market.  The stick ingredients contain arrowroot powder, coconut oil, candelilla wax, shea butter, baking soda, fractionated coconut oil, essential oils, vitamin E and green tea extract (see Schmidt’s web site if you want their scientific names).  The jars contains shea butter, baking soda, arrowroot powder, cocoa seed butter, essential oils, vitamin E, and hop extract.  Remember, it’s important to look at the ingredients when shopping for deodorants.  The ingredients to avoid are aluminum, parabens, propylene-glycol, phthalates, gluten, chemicals, and synthetics.

If you are looking to change your deodorant or just starting your journey to non-toxic products I would recommend Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant Stick.  It smells good and works too.  Have you tried Schmidt’s deodorant or have a favorite please let me know in the comments.  Sharing is knowledge!
