By now you’ve probably heard about the gorgeous Maya Chia The Highlight of the Day Illuminating Serum and how much glow these beauties can give. If not, then I will try to do these Illuminating Serums justice. Seriously, there will be some glow when you wear these. Let me start by saying I adore everything about Maya Chia, their products and the founder, Susanne Norwitz. I’ve talked to Susanne on the phone a couple of times when I had questions (I was so surprised she answered the phone when I called, but she told me she wanted to be part of all of Maya Chia-just try her products and you will see), she is knowledgeable (formulating genius), gives back to the Maya people, so generous, and I can go on and on. Should I say super fan?
The minute I saw the launch of Maya Chia’s Highlight of the Day in ‘happy hour” and “golden hour” my only issue was which one should I choose? Thankfully, when I finally made a decision on which one, thoughtful Susanne sent me the other so I didn’t have to make a choice (thank you, thank you). Now onto the details.
The Highlight of the Day is described as a pearlized mineral sheen suspended in an ultra lightweight, easily absorbed infusion of the world’s most nutrient-rich botanicals. It is make-up with skin care ingredients that are clean, luxurious and perform. The two shades are equally gorgeous. Happy hour is a pink lightweight serum-let there be pink! My first thought when I opened the bottle was “How did all the color get in there?” It adds a shimmery pink glow to skin, not too much, not too little, just right!!! Golden hour is a sparkling champagne color. A light golden hue.
Illuminating serum is lightweight, absorbs quickly and can be applied anywhere (you heard me). These highlighters are amazing gems, that can add a glow, life and youthful look, accentuate parts of your face, can make you look more awake-yes please. Do I prefer one over the other? No. It’s fun to decide which one I will wear for the day-pink or champagne?
There are many ways to use The Highlight of the Day. First, it must be shaken up to get all those stunning colors and nutrients together. I usually add 2- 3 drops to my foundation for an all over glow. Then add a little more to the inner eyes, cheeks and nose if I want some serious brightening power. I really do love adding a small amount to my inner eyes to help make me appear more awake (even before caffiene) Sometimes, when I just need to get out the door I apply The Highlight of the Day after my SPF for a youthful glow.
If you don’t wear foundation, you can wear it alone or mix it with your moisturizer or serum. You might have to play with it a bit to find out exactly how much of a glow you want.
With the warmer weather, I also like to place the extra on my collar bones, chest, and arms. Adds a sparkle to anywhere you place it on your body. You really can’t mess this up (unless you poured the entire bottle on your face-maybe). Plus the smell is a lovely subtle sweet citrus. It is like a dose of sunshine all around.
Since I wrote my original post (but didn’t publish it) Maya Chia has come out with a new Illuminating Serum in After Hours, so even though I’m still experimenting with this beauty I will share some swatches and my first impressions. I’m sure you already guessed how I’m feeling about it (insert bronze heart here).
Now their newest release is After Hours, a gorgeous bronze color. I must admit when I saw the pigmentation and heard some reviews that worked wonders with olive skin, I was a little nervous to order because of my fair skin. I should have known better with the versatility of Maya Chia because it actually can work for all skin tones, including mine. It adds a bronze/glow where ever you want it. I like to apply a few drops all over my face after foundation, then add a little more on cheeks and eyes. Gives me a beach look without the sun (bronze goddess in the making). Love it and can say a summer must have.
Top-after hours, middle-happy hour, bottom-golden hour
