I look forward to receiving my Back to Basics Box every month. It is one of my favorite eco subscription boxes. With all the amazing green beauty boxes out there, this one is different because it has both green beauty and eco-home. So good. I’ve been subscribed to this box for a few months now. The cost is $29.99 for the Eco Chic Chica plus shipping and there are other subscriptions for Household Combo and Go Green Gent read more about them here, plus see my reviews of the March and April boxes.
Not only are the products great, Ashleigh, the founder tests all the products out and gives information cards with each product about why the conventional products can contain potential harmful ingredients called “The Other Junk”. She compares the alternative safer product to “The Other Junk”. Super helpful for everyone, whether new to cleaner living or just trying to find some new safer effective products.
Now lets get into the details [Hint…the May box was fabulous as usual]
Smells so good, light floral aroma and works to fight odor (hello- I have a 5 year old and two little doggies). I used this everywhere in my house. Rooms, bathroom, laundry room, even on couches. As always, The OPTIMIST uses simple, clean ingredients: distilled water; organic apple cider vinegar; organic castile soap; and pure lavender essential oil.
I’ve had the opportunity to try a few products from The OPTIMIST now thanks to Back to Basics Box (please keep them coming) and I’m so impressed with everything- so affordable and works. They stay true to ingredients we can recognize, plus no parabens, no phthalates, and no synthetic fragrances. Makes this momma happy I don’t have to worry about my daughter being in the same room when cleaning.
Lavender & Bergamont Organic Dry Shampoo- this travel size dry shampoo is so great for dirty hair. A little goes a long way to make the grease disappear. I like applying with the cruelty-free bamboo handled brush. The brush makes it easier to blend in and less mess. The dry shampoo has a light scent and blends in with my blonde hair. It is vegan, organic, sulfate and fragrance free. I really like travel sizes when it comes to dry shampoos and this one comes in this scent plus they have Grapefruit + Sweet Orange and one for Dark Brown + Oily Hair, to learn more check out their shop.
This is a multi-use disinfectant. It is Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide. It can be used for so many things like: first aid; household services; laundry whitener; plants, pets; baby gear; and food wash. I like to use mine to get my bathroom sinks and shower an extra clean. Plus there is no strong odor, it really doesn’t leave any odor.
Herbivore Pink Clay Soap $12 & Soap Tray ~$5-10
This is a very gentle pink clay soap that can be used everywhere. I use it to wash my face, body, hands. The soap makes a great lather and feels so soft and clean without a stripping feeling. I adore bars of soap, especially when they are luxurious like this one. Plus it is pink, made from clean ingredients and makes me feel pampered. Such a pretty combination with the wood soap tray.
The May Back to Basics Box was a win for me. I enjoyed using everything in the box (as always), but my fave finds were The OPTIMIST Room & Air Spray and The Herbivore Pink Clay soap. If you’re looking for a great box with eco home/lifestyle and green beauty this is the one I would suggest. Affordable, quality products with Ashleigh’s research and explanations of why these products are safer than “The Other Junk”! Back to Basics help us switch out toxic products one box at a time.
