January 2018

Bottom Line

HELLO 2018!!!

I can’t believe it is 2018 already.  How about you?  Do you set resolutions or goals for the New Year?  I think a New Year is a great way to look at where I am and what I want for the next year.  I actually write down a list of my goals every day (almost daily) and for the New Year.  However, I must admit they tend to get too complicated, I set unreal expectations or not specific enough and then I feel like a failure because I didn’t accomplish what I set out to (what I can’t lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks?).  Does this sound familiar?  So this year I’m trying to set some achievable goals for the year (and daily goals) and what I really want to do for myself, my family, my well being.  These aren’t in any specific order:

  •  GET HEALTHY:  We all probably have a different definition of what “healthy” means.  I want to feel good and have energy everyday.  This means, taking steps like eating organic food, more fruits & vegetables, working out for at least 30 minutes a day, getting sleep (more than 5 hours).  Plus, I want to lose weight and get toned (I’m not going to set a number to lose, I want to feel good in my skin), which let me tell you it gets harder every year (after 40 has not been easy to keep the weight off, plus taking a beta blocker for SVT doesn’t help my cause either).   So when I say healthier and lose weight, what I really want is to be here for my daughter as long as I can.
  • MOTIVATION:  need I say more?  I want to do everything I set out to do.
  • GIVE BACK/STOP SPENDING:  I’m still working on this one.  My work in progress (I’m a work in progress).  I will let you know more about this, when I sort out the details.  As for spending, I’m learning how to follow Beauty Heroes mantra by founder Jeannie Jarnot to “USE LESS.  LOVE MORE” !  I’ve cut back on my subscriptions boxes (believe it or not) and overall spending everywhere (green beauty products, grocery store, clothes, lots…This makes husband very happy).
  • SMILE AND LAUGH MORE:  One day we were in the car and I was laughing (you know, one of those out loud laughs) and my daughter said “wow mommy I never hear you laugh.”  What?  I do laugh!  Well obviously not enough according to my girl.  How sad.  It made me realize, how I’m so in my head taking life too seriously, worrying about everything (hello, I’m a Risk Manager/attorney I’m always thinking worse case scenario).  Right then I realized I need to stop what ever I was doing and enjoy life.  So, I want to smile and laugh more.  ENJOY LIFE and try not to worry so much.  SMILE  -remember they are contagious!
  • BE PRESENT:  Another eye opener this holiday was when my daughter told us all she wanted for Christmas day was for “NO PHONES.”  Say what?  We know, constantly checking texts, emails, taking pictures, work, work, work, play, play, play.  Even just that quick look on our phone, she’s watching.  Our kids notice everything.  So I’m really trying to make a conscious effort to be there in the moment with my daughter and others.  With all of our electronics, phones, iPads, computers and everything it is not easy to disconnect, but it is a must for my sanity and most importantly for my daughter.

Did you make any resolutions/goals for the New Year?  Please share what (if anything) you do in comments below.   Thank you.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful 2018!

Product Reviews, Subscription Boxes

GOODBEING DECEMBER 2017

Goodbeing

Goodbeing, formerly known as Goodebox, is such a great monthly subscription box to discover healthy beauty, personal care and wellness products.  Every box I’ve tried has great products that are made with safer ingredients and healthier alternatives to conventional make-up, skincare & wellness products.  Check out my previous review of the November 2017 box and other review here.  They have a few options to choose from, starting at $9.95 a month.

First, to join members choose a box type and plan, the Beauty or Lifestyle box.  The Beauty box contains all beauty, featuring body & hair care, skincare, nail color, beauty elixirs/serums, even beauty accessories and more.  The Lifestyle box includes a combination of beauty, lifestyle, wellness, supplements, superfoods and non-toxic lifestyle goods.  They have  a monthly plan or pre-paid plan that saves money.

The Goodbeing Standard for the Lifestyle and Beauty box is $24.95 USD/Box or Prepaid 6 Month Plan $21.99 USD/Box ($131.95 every renewal):

  • Average value of $40-$50, varies each month and for member to member
  • Receive 4-5 items per month, full size, deluxe and samples
  • PICK your products:  you get to choose 1-2 items in your box with this subscription or you can opt to have the entire box be a surprise.
    • Love this!  This way you know you will always get at least 2 products you really wanted.

Mini Goodbeing $9.95 USD/Box or Annual Plan $8.95 USD/Box ($107.40 every renewal):

  • Average value $15-$20
  • Receive 2 items every month, either 2 travel size or a full size and deluxe size

Second, members fill out a detailed member profile.  This is how you get a personalized box, as well as picking your own products with the Goodbeing Standard membership.

Third, test away, figure out what you like.  Remember we are all different, what works for me may not work for you.  This is why subscription boxes are one of my favorite ways to test quality natural products without having to buy the full size only to find out it doesn’t work for me.

Every Goodbeing Box also comes with information cards with details about the products, cost and value of the products.  Plus a beautiful quote and Member Only Discounts on the other side.  Who doesn’t love discount codes?

Look at all the goods in December Box:

Jivi Moisturizer with Sun Protection in Lavender Full Size $12:

The moisturizer is creamy with a purple color that absorbs clear into skin.  This can be used everywhere for hydration and sun protection.  I like to apply to my arms, hands, face and neck.

Ingredients:  Many of the ingredients are organic- aloe vera juice shea butter, olive oil, zinc oxide emulsifying wax from coconut/palm tress, vegetable glycerin, jojoba oil ,micro algae, cucumber peel, rosemary, vitamin E, Essential oil blend.

Jivi products are also edible.  You heard right.  I’m not suggesting you eat the bottle or what is inside.  However, Jivi feels that if the ingredients aren’t safe to eat why should someone put it on their skin?  Such a great point, right?

How cute, the bottle even says to call your mom.  Plus, for every Jivi bottle purchased, Jivi gives a meal through a food bank, to a person in the neighborhood where the product was bought.

I like that this line is effective, safe, gives back, and is affordable.

Jivi Exfoliating Face Wash in Lemongrass Sample/Full Size $12:

A little goes a long way, just a small size of the wash massaged onto face, provides a light exfoliation.  It smells like yummy lemons and leaves skin fresh and clean.

Co Pur Lavender & Lime Hand Balm Full Size $9:

This beauty stick comes in handy.  Especially during the crazy weather months.  So easy to use with the no mess applicator.  It is a rich balm which can be applied anywhere extra moisture needed- hands, cuticles, elbows, heels.  Just allow the balm to warm in hands, which happens pretty quickly and apply.

Ingredients:  Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Organic Shea Butter, Organic cocoa Butter, Lavender Oil, Lime Oil.

This was a must have on our car trip to see family over the Holidays.  My husband and I have such dry hands right now and this beauty really helped sooth them and stop the cracking.

Esthechoc Chocolate Cambridge Beauty Science Beauty Dietary Supplement $7.85 for 3/$55 for 21 bars:

A yummy way to get a supplement.  Each one is individually wrapped.  It is a thin chocolate and tastes like a treat.  Any chocolate lovers out there?  Me too.

Made to increase microcirculation, cellular trurnoer, and improves overall skin function (yes, tell me more!) in about 21 days.

Ingredients:  cocoa polyphenols and plant based age called astaxanthin.  1 bar has 40 calories and a small amount of caffiene.

Directions one piece per day recommended to have with morning coffee or at night for an indulgent treat.  Also, I really like the idea of helping my skin and feeding my sweet tooth all at the same time.  Win, win!

Yes, all of mine are already gone.

Elate Clean Cosmetics Liquid Eyeliner in Joy Full Size $25:

I saw this sparkle gold beauty and had to make it one of my picks.  Eco beauty meets fashionista!  This clean water resistant formula lasts all day.  Plus how chic is the bamboo packaging?  I like to line my entire eye with this gold liner.  Goes on silky smooth, without streaking and brings a sparkle to the eyes.  Especially for the holidays.  Dries quickly, about a minute or two.

So happy I picked this gluten-free, toxin-free and clean ingredient beauty as part of my box.

MyChelle Lip Hints Condition Lip Balm in Plum Full Size $12.50:

A conditioning lip balm in many colors.  I received Plum, it looks bold in the glass pot, however, goes on sheer.  Leaves lips super soft and moisturized.  A melting balm made from a blend of Shea Butter, coconut, Kalahari Melon and Meadowfoam Oils.

Looks like a sheer gloss on.  So pretty, made without Phthalates, parabens, sulfate and other nasty ingredients.

Bottom Line

Such a great variety of natural products in the December Box.  I’m such a fan of picking 1- 2 of my products per box.  Always happy to see green beauty make-up, skincare, and wellness in one box.  I think I found my new favorite treat that is also good for my skin, Esthochoc chocolate.

Bottom Line

WHAT IS MY “BOTTOM LINE”?

Bottom Line

This is a place where I want to write about anything and everything, my truth, my bottom line.

The noun Bottom Line means:

  • the essential or salient point:  CRUX
  • the primary or most important consideration

I’ve been giving my “bottom line” at the end of my blog posts for a while now.  SO I thought why not make a space here on Green Passion Beauty where I can write about what ever my heart desires.  To me, Green Passion Beauty is always evolving, just like me.  I can’t wait to share my thoughts on life, fitness, eco-home/eco beauty or green beauty, self care, less is more (everything) with you.  So the Bottom Line will have it all.

First, let me start by sharing that this is a huge step for me.  I’ve been kind of a closed book most of my life.  I’m getting better about letting people in, to get to know me even in this digital/social world where sometimes one might argue we share too much.  It is still a struggle for me.  I was brought up to keep things to myself, my family.  Not that this is a bad thing, I just didn’t share much about me with others unless it was family or really close friends.  Maybe I was burned a few times by so called friends when I was younger and when my father died of cancer while I was in high school I was even more afraid to get too close to anyone.  Can we say defense mechanisms?  Does that make sense?  I will hopefully write more about this another day, but for now let’s leave it at that.

Then fast forward to adult hood, I became an attorney.  I felt like my entire way of thinking changed and it I thought everything I said, wrote, did had to be “perfect.”  Maybe I’ve also had the perfectionist gene, but when my career changed my ability to share got even worse.  Once “it” (what ever IT is) is out there in the universe you can’t take it back (writing, pictures, social media, what you say, anything you place out there).  Can I plead the FIFTH?

Okay, enough for now.  Happy New Years and can’t wait to see what 2018 and the NEW YEAR will bring for all of us.   What are you hoping for?  I’m sharing my thoughts on this in the next Bottom Line.

The Bottom Line:

The Crux

My Thoughts

The Sum
