#CleanBeautyRevolution Au Naturale Cosmetics

GPB Cleanbeautyrevolution

The #CleanBeautyRevolution is here and it’s about time.  For over 70 years the cosmetic industry has basically had limited restrictions on what ingredients, including harmful chemicals they put into our personal care products.  Au Naturale Cosmetics has been on a mission to make our products safe and we all can be part of it by signing the #CleanBeautyLobby.  Au Naturale is asking law makers to make cosmetics safe by creating a CLEAN BEAUTY STANDARD.  This Standard will protect us, the consumers, by demanding stricter legislation to monitor the cosmetic industry and clear, transparent labeling of beauty products in the United States.

Why is this so important?  Think about all the products you see on the market labeled “natural”, “organic” and “green”  that aren’t really what they say they are.  Why?  Great question- because there is not a legal definition for these terms when it comes to the cosmetic industry.  I must admit I’ve been fooled by these product labels, thinking I was buying natural safe products only to find out they had all the harmful ingredients that could be linked to health concerns.

Many people believe that if the product is out on the market, the product is safe and if labeled natural, organic or green that it truly is.  However, this is not true.  First, most would think we shouldn’t even have to worry about this, our products should just be safe period.   Second, most consumers would believe if there are certain labels on our products like organic, natural or green then they would have to meet those standards.  But, our products aren’t all safe, labels are ambiguous and the cosmetic industry is in a world all their own.

In the United States, the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act(FD&C Act) and the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA), does not have authority to require companies to test their products for safety.  Also, with the exception of color additives there are only a few prohibited substances that cosmetics companies can’t use.  There are about 10 ingredients banned in the United States, where the European Union (EU) has banned more than 1,000 ingredients.

So why is the US so different from the EU in the cosmetic industry?  More to that story later, the point now is, we as consumers have the right to safe products and clear labeling.  So what can we do?

If you want safer, stricter regulations for the cosmetic industry please join the #CleanBeautyRevolution by signing Au Naturale cosmetics CLEAN BEAUTY LOBBY petition on  We can all take action by spreading the word to our family, friends, co-workers and anyone that will listen.  Also, Au Naturale Cosmetics is inviting everyone to join the Clean Beauty Revolution by spreading the word via social media using hashtags #CleanBeautyRevolution and #CleanBeautyLobby to support the movement.  Au Naturale is planning on sitting down with Congress soon, Spring 2016, so let’s all stand together and demand safer products and stricter legislation to monitor the cosmetic industry.

GPB lobby

So what are you waiting for?  Go sign the petition at now if you haven’t already.  When I reached out to the Au Naturale Team they let me know their goal is at least 10k signatures by mid April.  Help support the #CleanBeautyRevolution and sign the #CleanBeautyLobby and share on social media.  For more details please also go to

Let’s make a difference together.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.

GPB Meliora and Made Safe 1

Have you been looking for affordable, safe, laundry detergent and cleaning products?  Then look no further, Meliora Cleaning products are MADE SAFE with no known harmful ingredients and they work.

Meliora (meh-lee-OR-ah) is Latin for “better”

Thank you Meliora for sending me the Master Bundle to try all your amazing MADE SAFE products.   Kate and Mike, the founders of Meliora, are engineers that realized there were toxic chemicals in their laundry detergent like 1,4 dioxane and wanted a safer alternative.  Kate began formulating her own laundry detergent and cleaning products with simpler ingredients and founded Meliora K, LLC in 2013.  They pride themselves in sharing all their ingredients, full disclosure people, no secrets here.  They changed their name to Meliora Cleaning Products in 2016.  Not only is it Meliora’s mission to provide us with safe ingredients in eco-friendly packaging, they are a Certified B corporation and MADE SAFE certified.

Certified B corporation means:

B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

MADE SAFE Certified

I’m so happy MADE SAFE asked me if I would be willing to try MADE SAFE products every couple of months.  Meloria is the second MADE SAFE product I’ve reviewed, Rejuva Minerals was my first and you can see my post here.  Also if you want to learn more about MADE SAFE check out their website at and my post here.  Just look for the MADE SAFE seal like the one below:

The MADE SAFE seal holds a lot of meaning, it lets us know that products are made without known carcinogens, behavioral, reproductive, neuron toxins, heavy metals, hormone disruptors, pesticides, insecticides, flame retardants, toxic solvents, or harmful VOCs or Volatile Organic Compounds and more.   This means Meliora’s products are made with safe ingredients, their product ingredients have been examined by scientists to ensure they are NOT harmful and don’t build up in the environment or our bodies.

MADE SAFE literally means a product has been made with safe ingredients that are not known or suspected to harm human, animals, or ecosystems.

MADE SAFE helps us to:

  • Figure out what’s safe and healthy to use for our families
  • Gives companies the first-ever road map for making products with safe ingredients
  • Makes it easy for retailers to stock the safe products we want

Everything Meliora and MADE SAFE does makes me this momma so happy.  Now let’s get into the clean goods.

The Master Bundle $30.99

GPB Meliora Master Bundle 2

This Bundle Includes everything pictured above and is such a great value:  64-Load Laundry Powder, Travel Size Laundry Powder, One Laundry Stain Removal Soap Stick, One All-Purpose Home Cleaner refillable glass bottle, and one 2-Refill tube of All-Purpose Home Cleaner

Laundry Powder (separatly $15.99)

GPB Meliora laundry and MADE SAFE

I’ve been using the lavender-lemon clove Laundry Powder on our clothes for a couple of months now.  It’s made from simple ingredients and easy to use, just 1/2 scoop for my HE washer.  This laundry powder works wonders on getting our clothes clean and has a very light scent.  It comes in multiple scents, including unscented, lavender, lemon and lavender-lemon clove.  All the scents are made from Organic essential oils, no fragrances.  This recyclable canister lasts a long time.   Plus the laundry powder comes in all different sizes, including the full size, travel size and refills.

GPB Meliora Laundry back of package

Made with simple ingredients and free of fragrances, dyes, preservatives, and brighteners.

Laundry Powder Travel Tube ($2.99)

GPB Meliora travel laundry

This travel tube came with the Master Bundle and can be purchased separately, if you just wanted to try out Meliora Laundry Powder or want one when traveling.  Love travel sizes, this is going with me on my next family vacation (Disney World and yes I do laundry at the happiest place on earth).

There’s enough for 2 standard loads or 4 HE:

GPB Meliora Travel tube

Soap Stick For Laundry Stain Removal ($2.99)

GPB Meliora stain stick and back of package

This Soap Stick or “Stain Eraser” like I call it, works magic to get stains off.  Like they say Pictures are worth a thousand words…

GPB Meliora cherry stain

GPB Meliora Soap Stick Cherry 3
GPB Meliora Soap Stick Cherry Clean 4

Can you believe it?  This was one of my daughter’s favorite napkins that she got her cherries on.  After she was done eating I immediately used the Soap Stick.  All I had to do was wet the fabric, rub the stick on the area and then into the wash.  I couldn’t believe how great it worked and how easy it was to use.

Made with simple ingredients:  Vegetable Soap [Sodium Cocoate, Glycerin, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Water]

I also tried the Soap Stick on an older stain thanks to my IG friend Melissa @guidetowellness asking if it would work on old stains.  I remembered my favorite shirt, Clean Beauty Revolution, which I feared was ruined with a lipstick stain right in the front of the shirt.  This lipstick stain was there for a couple of months and I couldn’t fix it, until I used the Meliora Soap Stick.  Now the stain is gone!  Love this stick, a must have for me (especially when I wear white and I have a 5 year old).  Good Bye Stains!!!

All-Purpose Home Cleaner ($7.99)

GPB Meliora All Purpose MADE SAFE

This is a refillable glass spray bottle pre-filled with All-Purpose Home Cleaner.  I just added warm water and then shaked the bottle for a little while for the flakes to dissolve.  This is unscented and can be used on hard surfaces.  They do recommend testing any stained/finished surface in an inconspicuous spot – just in case.  I like to use it on my countertops, sinks, and the bathroom.

GPB Meliora All Purpose Mixed with H20

Mixed with water

It is made with simple ingredients:  Vegetable Soap [Sodium Cocoate, Glycerin, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Water]

The glass bottle is refillable and the Master Bundle came with a re-fill which is great for the environment and our home.

All-Purpose Soap Flakes refill ($2.99)

Bottom Line

Meliora Cleaning Products are so good, affordable, and they really work.  If you haven’t noticed I really love seeing the MADE SAFE seal, it makes me feel better knowing products are made without harmful ingredients.  So if you’re looking for safer home products that work, try Meliora Cleaning Products, continue reading  labels, and look for the MADE SAFE seal.

Have you tried Meliora products or any MADE SAFE products?  What did you think?

Green Passion Beauty

Product Reviews, Subscription Boxes

This monthly personalized subscription box is such a great way to discover healthy beauty, personal care and wellness products.  Goodbeing, formerly known as Goodebox, was one of the first natural beauty boxes I subscribed to when I started my safer product journey.  Check out my previous review here.  I really like that Goodbeing has a number of box options available and start as low as $9.95 a month.

How it Works

First, to join members choose a box type and plan, the Beauty or Lifestyle box.  The Beauty box contains all beauty, featuring body & hair care, skincare, nail color, beauty elixirs/serums, even beauty accessories and more.  The Lifestyle box includes a combination of beauty, lifestyle, wellness, supplements, superfoods and non-toxic lifestyle goods.  They have  a monthly plan or pre-paid plan that saves money.

The Goodbeing Standard for the Lifestyle and Beauty box is $24.95 USD/Box or Prepaid 6 Month Plan $21.99 USD/Box ($131.95 every renewal):

  • Average value of $40-$50, varies each month and for member to member
  • Receive 4-5 items per month, full size, deluxe and samples
  • PICK your products:  you get to choose 1-2 items in your box with this subscription or you can opt to have the entire box be a surprise.
    • Love this!  This way you know you will always get at least 2 products you really wanted.

Mini Goodbeing $9.95 USD/Box or Annual Plan $8.95 USD/Box ($107.40 every renewal):

  • Average value $15-$20
  • Receive 2 items every month, either 2 travel size or a full size and deluxe size

Second, members fill out a detailed member profile.  This is how you get a personalized box, as well as picking your own products with the Goodbeing Standard membership.

Third, test away, figure out what you like.  Remember we are all different, what works for me may not work for you.  This is why subscription boxes are one of my favorite ways to test quality natural products without having to buy the full size only to find out it doesn’t work for me.

Every Goodbeing Box also comes with information cards with details about the products, cost and value of the products.  Plus a beautiful quote and Member Only Discounts on the other side.  I seriously love quotes and discounts.  Who doesn’t?

Goodbeing was so kind to send me their Lifestyle box filled with green beauty and eco-lifestyle goodies.  So let’s check out all the goodies in my November box:

LoQi Bags $10-95-$12.95

Hello eco-friendly meets fashion!  This was one of picks.  I already have a few and don’t like to go anywhere without them.  They are huge and can hold so much.  Plus, eco-friendly, chemical free, and washable.  That’s right, washable.  These come folded in a little zipper purse to keep in your bag or car or luggage for future use (so easy).  Compact and strong enough to hold groceries, clothes, an American Girl Doll, and more.

I use these LoQi bags to go shopping, for car trips and make sure to have them in my luggage when traveling.  Fashionable enough to use as a purse and also as a laundry bag.  So versatile and so many styles to choose from.

Kvoss NYC Nourish Magik Shimmer Body Lotion 2 oz/$28

This luxurious body lotion is so creamy with a light shimmer.  It feels so silky smooth, hydrating and absorbs quickly.  With a lovely shea butter scent.  So pretty.

Made with grape oil to support skin cell renewal + antioxidant rich avocado butter and hydrating shea better to ward off dryness.

I like to apply anywhere & everywhere I want a glow and soft skin.

Plaine Products Travel Body Wash Rosemary-Mint-Vanilla Travel Size $5

This body wash smells so good.  Made with a combination of rosemary and fresh mint plus a touch of vanilla.  The minty smell is so refreshing, like a spa day at home.  The travel size is great to figure out if the product works before splurging on the full size.  Such a great product, plus the mission behind this brand is commendable, to reduce plastic.  Their products come in aluminum bottles that can be reused, recycled and returned to the company.  They even pay to have their empty bottles sent back to them.  To learn more about their process check out their website here.

Made without harmful chemicals, no PEG, PG, parabens, sulfates, dyes, synthetic fragrances or petrochemicals.

Sahajan Skincare Restorative Eye Cream Deluxe Sample  8 mL $25.60 (Full Size 15 mL $48)

I was so happy to see Eye Cream in my November box.  This one is an Organic Ayurvedic Blend made with ingredients like Triphala to help brighten skin, Neem Oil which means “the healing tree” in Sanskrit & Honey to soothe and repair (more please!!!).

I was a little shocked by the color when I first tried it, for some reason I was expecting white or clear.  However, the rich color absorbs and melts into skin.  It has a silky texture and it leaves skin around the delicate eye area smooth with a slight cooling effect.  So lovely.

Au Naturale Cosmetics Creme Shadow in Camo Deluxe Sample $18 (Full Size $24)

This is super pigmented, and a gorgeous green forest shade, no wonder it is called CAMO.  It has a creamy texture that I like to apply with my finger all over the bottom of my eyelid or use with a precision brush as a liner to make my hazel eyes pop.  Au Naturale has always been one of my favorite green beauty lines with a mission to get us stricter labeling laws with the #cleabeautyrevolution.  I can’t say enough good things about all their beautiful clean make up, see my collaboration with Teri Miyahira in the Guide to Au Naturale Cosmetics and learn more about the clean beauty revolution in my blog post here.

Bottom Line

I’m so impressed with Goodbeing monthly subscription box.  It is personalized.  Plus, they give full and deluxe sample sizes of quality green beauty and lifestyle brands.  The value is way over the price of the box, the November box had a value over $87 (insert happy face here).  This would make a great gift for someone that wants to green their routine or the eco person in your life.

See any favorites?  What did you get in your November box?

Legislation/Take Action

What can you do and how to Take Action

What can you do to ensure your products are safe to use for you and your family?

  • Education-first, educate yourself on what ingredients you should stay away from in beauty and personal care products.  Even if the product or someone says it is natural, organic, green please check the ingredient list.  I have purchased products that I thought were natural or didn’t contain toxic materials because of the claims they made and later found out their products had harmful ingredients in them.
  • Share information with your family and friends.  Just realize some people may not want to hear what you have to say.  I’ve talked to a few people that I was shocked by their responses (I won’t name any names).  I’ve heard things like “well everything can hurt you/causes cancer” or “it’s such a small amount of the ingredient it really doesn’t matter” or “I’m too old it doesn’t matter any more.”  My response?  I try to explain as much as I can but let them know it is their decision, but this is what I’m doing for me and my family.
  • Don’t buy toxic products.  There are so many safer, affordable options out there now.
    • How you spend your money is how you vote on what exists in the world~ Vicki Robin
  • Discuss your concerns about certain products with the company/manufacturer.  Email them, ask them questions on Instagram or social media.  Hopefully, the company/manufacturer will answer your question and be transparent about what ingredients are in their products.
  • Write to your senator, legislator about your concerns.

Here are some amazing resources and companies that are spearheading the way to make our products safer.  Please click on links to find out more information:

Breast Cancer Fund:  The Breast Cancer Fund works to connect the dots between breast cancer and exposures to chemicals and radiation in our everyday environments.  The Breast Cancer Fund works to prevent breast cancer by eliminating our exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation linked to the disease.

Campaign for Safe Cosmetics– The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics coalition, a project of the Breast Cancer Fund, works to protect the health of consumers, workers and the environment through public education and engagement, corporate accountability and sustainability campaigns and legislative advocacy designed to eliminate dangerous chemicals linked to adverse health impacts from cosmetics and personal care products.

Clean Beauty Revolution Au Naturale Cosmetics started the movement for the #cleanbeautyrevolution asking for stricter legislation.  Specifically, they are asking law makers to make cosmetics safe by creating the Clean Beauty Standard that will protect consumers against harsh chemicals, beginning with required ingredient transparency. This means clear and accountable labelling of all cosmetic products.  You can also read my post about it here.

EWG The Environmental Working Group is a non-profit organization.   The EWG’s mission is to empower people to live healthier lives in a healthier environment. With breakthrough research and education to drive consumer choice and civic action.

Made Safe is a non-profit organization that provides America’s first comprehensive human health-focused certification for nontoxic products across store aisles, from baby to personal care to household and beyond. Their goal is to change the way products are made in this country to ultimately eliminate the use of toxic chemicals altogether.

Think Dirty is a mobile application “Think Dirty® app is the easiest way to learn about the potentially toxic ingredients in your cosmetics and personal care products. Just scan the product barcode and Think Dirty will give you easy-to-understand info on the product, its ingredients, and shop cleaner options!”

These are just some of the references I use when researching ingredients/products and I will add more as the green beauty community movement continues.

Subscription Boxes

Organic Bunny Box-hello glamorous girl with a green heart

Organic Bunny Box

The Organic Bunny Box is the love passion/brain child of The Organic Bunny, Amanda Jo.  Most people have heard of this amazing green beauty advocate and follow her on Instagram  (that’s how I found her) and been to her blog The Organic Bunny for great tips on organic, green beauty, safer products and reviews, if not go find her now.  Thank goodness she ventured into the subscription box world.  Seriously one of the best out there if you’re looking for safe glamorous and everyday beauty (and believe me I’ve tried so many subscription boxes-my husband would say too many).

What’s in the box???  According to Organic Bunny:

Once a month The Organic Bunny Box delivers Non-Toxic, Natural and Organic beauty products conveniently to your door. Each box contains 6-8 products in medium to full sizes, some smaller samples may be included as extra goodies. We are not fans of small samples so rest assured, the items in this box will be big enough to provide you with the full product experience!

All products are Cruelty-Free, over 98% Natural, always Non-Toxic and made with Organic ingredients as frequently as possible. I will always try to provide an amazing mix of items, including but not limited to: Natural makeup, perfume, skin and body care, with occasional healthy treats and eco-friendly products.

I’ve been subscribed to Organic Bunny Box since December 2015 and have been incredibly impressed.  Not only are there products that I’ve wanted to try but products/brands I didn’t know existed and are so good.  Also, love the glamourous eco-chic boxes they come in and the bag for September month.   I use these boxes to store my make-up, journals/cards, products and also to give as gifts with clean goodies inside.  I decided to write about all the Organic Bunny Boxes I’ve received with mini reviews (you might see a more detailed monthly review soon or for future boxes).  I know when I’m trying to decide if I want to subscribe to a box I look at previous months, so I wanted to make it easy for you to see everything offered in the Organic Bunny Box each month in one spot.  I’ve only missed the first 2 months (insert sad face here).

The pricing varies depending on what subscription you pick- for monthly subscription it is $59 and you save some money if you opt for the 3 month subscription for $167 or 6 month subscription for $330.  Click here for more details.

Bottom Line

Can you see why The Organic Bunny Box is one of my favorite clean beauty subscription boxes and one of Thoughtfully Magazine’s Top 6?  Such a great variety of clean beauty/clean living products and fabulous value.  Some of the products I couldn’t determine the exact value, but you can see the approximate value of each product and each box was well over the $59 per month cost.  As a subscription box collector, I know that some months are going to be better than others and that is what you should except with any subscription box.  But overall, I’m always happy with this glamorous box, plus I can use everything in them.  The Organic Bunny Box would make a great Holiday/Birthday/Self care gift for someone new to clean beauty or the green beauty enthusiast.   Do you subscribe?  What was your favorite Organic Bunny Box month?  Do you want to see monthly (more detailed) reviews?  Please leave comments below.  Thank you.
