PETIT VOUR JANUARY 2018

Petit Vour

Way to start 2018 off right with the Petit Vour box full of cruelty-free beauty.  The monthly box is only $18 a month or as low as $15 a month with a yearly membership.  Every box is expertly curated and free from animal testing, animal ingredients and harmful toxins.

Petit Vour “peh-tee-vohr”

“Is a Frenglish word derived from French confectionary “petit four.”  A petit vour is a small, cruelty-free luxury-non-toxic, vegan, and ethically made.  Petit Vour boxes contain a selection of such things and are curated for the modern, ethical woman.”

How it works:

  • Each box contains 4-5 cruelty free beauty products every month.  May contain travel, deluxe or full- size products
  • Typical value $45-$60 monthly
  • Each box includes a variety of products, from hair care, make-up, body and skin care
  • Curated to match personalized profile
  • Cruelty free, non-toxic products, plant based products
  • Boxes ship in batches, between the 10th-20th of the month
  • Get 400 PV pont or $4 when you rate the items from that month’s box
  • Once you try/test the products they can be purchased in the Petit Vour on-line shop
  • Every box includes an information card with details about the products featured, a beautiful picture/inspiring words, and may include discounts or free products with purchase.

To see my last review go here.  Thank you Petit Vour for sending me this box to review.

So let’s get to it.

We Love Eyes Tea Tree Eyelid & Eyelash Foaming Cleanser Full Size $20

Already more than the price of the box.  This is a foam cleanser, just a few pumps works.

I don’t wear tons of make-up, but use this when I wear my usual make-up (mascara and eyeshadow).  This can also be used to clean false lashes too.

How to use:

  • shake well
  • use 2 pumps on clean fingertips
  • close eyes and apply, gently rub onto eyelids and eyelashes
  • rinse with water- I like to use warm water, then follow with my all over face cleanser and then towel dry.

Andalou Naturals Vitamin C Brightening Facial Mask $5

This a face mask that gives a quick boost.  You might look a little funny or scary according to my daughter (see pic below), but great for a spa day at home or before a big event.

To apply, gently unfold the sheet mask, place the soft, fiber side on clean dry face.  Adjust the eyes, mouth, nose openings.  Try to relax, not to answer the door with mask on, and take off in about 10-20 minutes (or when you feel ready).  I like to apply the extra product in the package to my face after I’m done with sheet mask.  My skin felt so soft and radiant after I used the mask.  Plus these are affordable and come in a variety of masks for your skin care preference.

Aromatherapy Associates Hydrating Face Oil Deluxe Sample $15.20

This facial oil absorbs fast and makes skin feel soft.  It is great for all skin types, especially shall we say it, mature skin (that’s mine).

Made with potent essential oils and natural plant extracts such as Frankincense to rejuvenate and firm and rose to smooth skin’s appearance.  I like to apply a little drop to my hands and take in the beautiful rose earthy smell.  So lovely.

Tip:  have too many face oils use this for aromatherapy, or on hands/feet for some extra softness.

K Voss NYC Cinnamon Lip Plumper Full Size $18

Wow!  You can smell the cinnamon in this little glass jar.  It is a lip balm and lip plumper.  Made with coconut, almond and olive oil and pure cinnamon.  However, when I applied the balm my lips felt like they were on fire and I had to take it off right away.  I gave it one more try and applied it after lipstick, but it was still too hot for me.  Although, it didn’t work for me, it might work for someone else, remember not all products are for everyone.  You may love it.  What did you think?

Bottom Line

For me, Petit Vour always delivers a great box, especially for the price.  The All About Eyes already covered the cost of the box, so everything else was a bonus for me.  Although, I couldn’t wear the lip balm because it was just too hot for my lips, I really liked all the other products in the January box.

What did you think of the January box?  Please share in comments.  Thanks

Bottom Line

HELLO 2018!!!

I can’t believe it is 2018 already.  How about you?  Do you set resolutions or goals for the New Year?  I think a New Year is a great way to look at where I am and what I want for the next year.  I actually write down a list of my goals every day (almost daily) and for the New Year.  However, I must admit they tend to get too complicated, I set unreal expectations or not specific enough and then I feel like a failure because I didn’t accomplish what I set out to (what I can’t lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks?).  Does this sound familiar?  So this year I’m trying to set some achievable goals for the year (and daily goals) and what I really want to do for myself, my family, my well being.  These aren’t in any specific order:

  •  GET HEALTHY:  We all probably have a different definition of what “healthy” means.  I want to feel good and have energy everyday.  This means, taking steps like eating organic food, more fruits & vegetables, working out for at least 30 minutes a day, getting sleep (more than 5 hours).  Plus, I want to lose weight and get toned (I’m not going to set a number to lose, I want to feel good in my skin), which let me tell you it gets harder every year (after 40 has not been easy to keep the weight off, plus taking a beta blocker for SVT doesn’t help my cause either).   So when I say healthier and lose weight, what I really want is to be here for my daughter as long as I can.
  • MOTIVATION:  need I say more?  I want to do everything I set out to do.
  • GIVE BACK/STOP SPENDING:  I’m still working on this one.  My work in progress (I’m a work in progress).  I will let you know more about this, when I sort out the details.  As for spending, I’m learning how to follow Beauty Heroes mantra by founder Jeannie Jarnot to “USE LESS.  LOVE MORE” !  I’ve cut back on my subscriptions boxes (believe it or not) and overall spending everywhere (green beauty products, grocery store, clothes, lots…This makes husband very happy).
  • SMILE AND LAUGH MORE:  One day we were in the car and I was laughing (you know, one of those out loud laughs) and my daughter said “wow mommy I never hear you laugh.”  What?  I do laugh!  Well obviously not enough according to my girl.  How sad.  It made me realize, how I’m so in my head taking life too seriously, worrying about everything (hello, I’m a Risk Manager/attorney I’m always thinking worse case scenario).  Right then I realized I need to stop what ever I was doing and enjoy life.  So, I want to smile and laugh more.  ENJOY LIFE and try not to worry so much.  SMILE  -remember they are contagious!
  • BE PRESENT:  Another eye opener this holiday was when my daughter told us all she wanted for Christmas day was for “NO PHONES.”  Say what?  We know, constantly checking texts, emails, taking pictures, work, work, work, play, play, play.  Even just that quick look on our phone, she’s watching.  Our kids notice everything.  So I’m really trying to make a conscious effort to be there in the moment with my daughter and others.  With all of our electronics, phones, iPads, computers and everything it is not easy to disconnect, but it is a must for my sanity and most importantly for my daughter.

Did you make any resolutions/goals for the New Year?  Please share what (if anything) you do in comments below.   Thank you.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful 2018!

“The New Year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written.  We can help write that story by setting goals.”

GOODBEING DECEMBER 2017

Goodbeing

Goodbeing, formerly known as Goodebox, is such a great monthly subscription box to discover healthy beauty, personal care and wellness products.  Every box I’ve tried has great products that are made with safer ingredients and healthier alternatives to conventional make-up, skincare & wellness products.  Check out my previous review of the November 2017 box and other review here.  They have a few options to choose from, starting at $9.95 a month.

First, to join members choose a box type and plan, the Beauty or Lifestyle box.  The Beauty box contains all beauty, featuring body & hair care, skincare, nail color, beauty elixirs/serums, even beauty accessories and more.  The Lifestyle box includes a combination of beauty, lifestyle, wellness, supplements, superfoods and non-toxic lifestyle goods.  They have  a monthly plan or pre-paid plan that saves money.

The Goodbeing Standard for the Lifestyle and Beauty box is $24.95 USD/Box or Prepaid 6 Month Plan $21.99 USD/Box ($131.95 every renewal):

  • Average value of $40-$50, varies each month and for member to member
  • Receive 4-5 items per month, full size, deluxe and samples
  • PICK your products:  you get to choose 1-2 items in your box with this subscription or you can opt to have the entire box be a surprise.
    • Love this!  This way you know you will always get at least 2 products you really wanted.

Mini Goodbeing $9.95 USD/Box or Annual Plan $8.95 USD/Box ($107.40 every renewal):

  • Average value $15-$20
  • Receive 2 items every month, either 2 travel size or a full size and deluxe size

Second, members fill out a detailed member profile.  This is how you get a personalized box, as well as picking your own products with the Goodbeing Standard membership.

Third, test away, figure out what you like.  Remember we are all different, what works for me may not work for you.  This is why subscription boxes are one of my favorite ways to test quality natural products without having to buy the full size only to find out it doesn’t work for me.

Every Goodbeing Box also comes with information cards with details about the products, cost and value of the products.  Plus a beautiful quote and Member Only Discounts on the other side.  Who doesn’t love discount codes?

Look at all the goods in December Box:

Jivi Moisturizer with Sun Protection in Lavender Full Size $12:

The moisturizer is creamy with a purple color that absorbs clear into skin.  This can be used everywhere for hydration and sun protection.  I like to apply to my arms, hands, face and neck.

Ingredients:  Many of the ingredients are organic- aloe vera juice shea butter, olive oil, zinc oxide emulsifying wax from coconut/palm tress, vegetable glycerin, jojoba oil ,micro algae, cucumber peel, rosemary, vitamin E, Essential oil blend.

Jivi products are also edible.  You heard right.  I’m not suggesting you eat the bottle or what is inside.  However, Jivi feels that if the ingredients aren’t safe to eat why should someone put it on their skin?  Such a great point, right?

How cute, the bottle even says to call your mom.  Plus, for every Jivi bottle purchased, Jivi gives a meal through a food bank, to a person in the neighborhood where the product was bought.

I like that this line is effective, safe, gives back, and is affordable.

Jivi Exfoliating Face Wash in Lemongrass Sample/Full Size $12:

A little goes a long way, just a small size of the wash massaged onto face, provides a light exfoliation.  It smells like yummy lemons and leaves skin fresh and clean.

Co Pur Lavender & Lime Hand Balm Full Size $9:

This beauty stick comes in handy.  Especially during the crazy weather months.  So easy to use with the no mess applicator.  It is a rich balm which can be applied anywhere extra moisture needed- hands, cuticles, elbows, heels.  Just allow the balm to warm in hands, which happens pretty quickly and apply.

Ingredients:  Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Organic Shea Butter, Organic cocoa Butter, Lavender Oil, Lime Oil.

This was a must have on our car trip to see family over the Holidays.  My husband and I have such dry hands right now and this beauty really helped sooth them and stop the cracking.

Esthechoc Chocolate Cambridge Beauty Science Beauty Dietary Supplement $7.85 for 3/$55 for 21 bars:

A yummy way to get a supplement.  Each one is individually wrapped.  It is a thin chocolate and tastes like a treat.  Any chocolate lovers out there?  Me too.

Made to increase microcirculation, cellular trurnoer, and improves overall skin function (yes, tell me more!) in about 21 days.

Ingredients:  cocoa polyphenols and plant based age called astaxanthin.  1 bar has 40 calories and a small amount of caffiene.

Directions one piece per day recommended to have with morning coffee or at night for an indulgent treat.  Also, I really like the idea of helping my skin and feeding my sweet tooth all at the same time.  Win, win!

Yes, all of mine are already gone.

Elate Clean Cosmetics Liquid Eyeliner in Joy Full Size $25:

I saw this sparkle gold beauty and had to make it one of my picks.  Eco beauty meets fashionista!  This clean water resistant formula lasts all day.  Plus how chic is the bamboo packaging?  I like to line my entire eye with this gold liner.  Goes on silky smooth, without streaking and brings a sparkle to the eyes.  Especially for the holidays.  Dries quickly, about a minute or two.

So happy I picked this gluten-free, toxin-free and clean ingredient beauty as part of my box.

MyChelle Lip Hints Condition Lip Balm in Plum Full Size $12.50:

A conditioning lip balm in many colors.  I received Plum, it looks bold in the glass pot, however, goes on sheer.  Leaves lips super soft and moisturized.  A melting balm made from a blend of Shea Butter, coconut, Kalahari Melon and Meadowfoam Oils.

Looks like a sheer gloss on.  So pretty, made without Phthalates, parabens, sulfate and other nasty ingredients.

Bottom Line

Such a great variety of natural products in the December Box.  I’m such a fan of picking 1- 2 of my products per box.  Always happy to see green beauty make-up, skincare, and wellness in one box.  I think I found my new favorite treat that is also good for my skin, Esthochoc chocolate.

Bottom Line

WHAT IS MY “BOTTOM LINE”?

Bottom Line

This is a place where I want to write about anything and everything, my truth, my bottom line.

The noun Bottom Line means:

  • the essential or salient point:  CRUX
  • the primary or most important consideration

I’ve been giving my “bottom line” at the end of my blog posts for a while now.  SO I thought why not make a space here on Green Passion Beauty where I can write about what ever my heart desires.  To me, Green Passion Beauty is always evolving, just like me.  I can’t wait to share my thoughts on life, fitness, eco-home/eco beauty or green beauty, self care, less is more (everything) with you.  So the Bottom Line will have it all.

First, let me start by sharing that this is a huge step for me.  I’ve been kind of a closed book most of my life.  I’m getting better about letting people in, to get to know me even in this digital/social world where sometimes one might argue we share too much.  It is still a struggle for me.  I was brought up to keep things to myself, my family.  Not that this is a bad thing, I just didn’t share much about me with others unless it was family or really close friends.  Maybe I was burned a few times by so called friends when I was younger and when my father died of cancer while I was in high school I was even more afraid to get too close to anyone.  Can we say defense mechanisms?  Does that make sense?  I will hopefully write more about this another day, but for now let’s leave it at that.

Then fast forward to adult hood, I became an attorney.  I felt like my entire way of thinking changed and it I thought everything I said, wrote, did had to be “perfect.”  Maybe I’ve also had the perfectionist gene, but when my career changed my ability to share got even worse.  Once “it” (what ever IT is) is out there in the universe you can’t take it back (writing, pictures, social media, what you say, anything you place out there).  Can I plead the FIFTH?

Okay, enough for now.  Happy New Years and can’t wait to see what 2018 and the NEW YEAR will bring for all of us.   What are you hoping for?  I’m sharing my thoughts on this in the next Bottom Line.

The Bottom Line:

My Truth

The Crux

My Thoughts

The Sum

My Words

SEASON’S GREETINGS WITH PETIT VOUR DECEMBER 2017 BOX

Petit Vour

Have you been searching for cruelty free beauty options?  Then take a look at Petit Vour Monthly Subscription Box.  The monthly box is only $18 a month or as low as $15 a month for $180 a year.  Everything is expertly curated and free from animal testing, animal ingredients and harmful toxins.  The first Petit Vour box was curated in 2013 and continues to be one of the best out there.  I often wonder how they are able to deliver all the luxury cruelty free beauty boxes every month for that price (steal).

When Petit Vour reached out to me to review their boxes I was so excited and couldn’t wait (happy dance).  I’m so proud to be part of the Petit Vour movement and their mission to bring two worlds together: luxury and progressive values.

Now, let’s check out the December Petit Vour box.

The December Box

Each box includes an Information card, always with an artistic picture or inspiring statement to match the theme of the box, plus details about how to use the products.  This month is so festive and how cute is the little bunny?

Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Mascara $10/Full Size $22

This black mascara goes on smooth without clumping or smudging.  I really liked this mascara because it is buildable.  I have blonde barely there eyelashes, so I like to wear one that makes my eyelashes stand out without causing black under eye smudges.  It made my eyelashes look long and you can see them (score).  The mascara is nutrient rich from plant derived Photo-Pigments and formulated with over 60% of certified organic ingredients.

True Moringa Lip Whip in Truth Full Size $16

Naturally colored and flavored lip whips.  This comes in 3 beautiful shades, I received Truth, a pretty pink.  Looks like a bold pink in the pot, but goes on as a sheer pink tint.  Helps keep lips hydrated and moisturized with a little shimmer.  Tints are great for a more natural look and feel.  So easy to place the glass pot in a pocket on the run or in a bag.

Odacite Synergie Immediate Skin Perfecting Beauty Masque $6/Full Size $59

This is a powder that is mixed with water or any liquid or serum to detoxify pores with activated charcoal and clay, brighten and even skin tone with vitamin C + Fruit Enzymes, to peel off dead cells with papaya enzymes + fruit extracts, and firm skin due to probiotics + vitamin C.  More please.  I mixed about 1 1/2 teaspoons of the powder with water.  It turned into a lovely gray color with a smooth clay consistency.  I left it on for about 15 minutes.  It left my skin feeling soft and smooth.  Plus, so nice there is enough for 2 masks in the travel package.

Province Apothcary Full Brow Serum $16 /Full Size $36

This formula is blended with botanical extracts and anti oxidants to encourage fuller-looking brows.  A blend of Organic Castor Seed Oil and Coffee Extract targets hair follicles to help them grow.   I so need this.  Not only do I have sparse eyelashes, my brows are the same.  The serum is light with an earthy aroma.  My brows do seem a bit thicker, so can’t wait to see with continued use what happens.

URSA Major Golden Hour Travel Size $6/Full Size $48

The cream texture feels so lovely on my dry winter skin.  My skin care changes with the season because my skin goes through so much.  How about you?  So winter months I like creams and balms.  This one is super creamy, hydrating that absorbs quickly, not greasy.  Plus, the scent is light and clean.  Can be used twice daily or as a night cream.  I like to use it at night so I wake up with super soft skin.

Bottom Line

Such an amazing box, with a value that is always higher than the cost of the box.  Super crazy to get all these quality products for only $15-$18 a month.  I definitely recommend this box for those interested in discovering luxury cruelty-free beauty.  The best way to see if you like the products and the ingredients before you purchase full sizes.  Not only do you get a fabulous surprise cruelty-free box every month, you can review the products and get money to spend in their online shop.  Bonus.  Love it.

Are you subscribed?  What was your favorite product in this month’s box?  If you want to subscribe, please use my link here.

Love the quote by Petit Vour, simple and yet so significant!  So let’s remember to:

GOODBEING PERSONALIZED BOX NOVEMBER 2017

Goodbeing

This monthly personalized subscription box is such a great way to discover healthy beauty, personal care and wellness products.  Goodbeing, formerly known as Goodebox, was one of the first natural beauty boxes I subscribed to when I started my safer product journey.  Check out my previous review here.  I really like that Goodbeing has a number of box options available and start as low as $9.95 a month.

How it Works

I seriously love quotes and discounts.  Who doesn’t?

Goodbeing was so kind to send me their Lifestyle box filled with green beauty and eco-lifestyle goodies.  So let’s check out all the goodies in my November box:

LoQi Bags $10-95-$12.95

Hello eco-friendly meets fashion!  This was one of picks.  I already have a few and don’t like to go anywhere without them.  They are huge and can hold so much.  Plus, eco-friendly, chemical free, and washable.  That’s right, washable.  These come folded in a little zipper purse to keep in your bag or car or luggage for future use (so easy).  Compact and strong enough to hold groceries, clothes, an American Girl Doll, and more.

I use these LoQi bags to go shopping, for car trips and make sure to have them in my luggage when traveling.  Fashionable enough to use as a purse and also as a laundry bag.  So versatile and so many styles to choose from.

Kvoss NYC Nourish Magik Shimmer Body Lotion 2 oz/$28

This luxurious body lotion is so creamy with a light shimmer.  It feels so silky smooth, hydrating and absorbs quickly.  With a lovely shea butter scent.  So pretty.

Made with grape oil to support skin cell renewal + antioxidant rich avocado butter and hydrating shea better to ward off dryness.

I like to apply anywhere & everywhere I want a glow and soft skin.

Plaine Products Travel Body Wash Rosemary-Mint-Vanilla Travel Size $5

This body wash smells so good.  Made with a combination of rosemary and fresh mint plus a touch of vanilla.  The minty smell is so refreshing, like a spa day at home.  The travel size is great to figure out if the product works before splurging on the full size.  Such a great product, plus the mission behind this brand is commendable, to reduce plastic.  Their products come in aluminum bottles that can be reused, recycled and returned to the company.  They even pay to have their empty bottles sent back to them.  To learn more about their process check out their website here.

Made without harmful chemicals, no PEG, PG, parabens, sulfates, dyes, synthetic fragrances or petrochemicals.

Sahajan Skincare Restorative Eye Cream Deluxe Sample  8 mL $25.60 (Full Size 15 mL $48)

I was so happy to see Eye Cream in my November box.  This one is an Organic Ayurvedic Blend made with ingredients like Triphala to help brighten skin, Neem Oil which means “the healing tree” in Sanskrit & Honey to soothe and repair (more please!!!).

I was a little shocked by the color when I first tried it, for some reason I was expecting white or clear.  However, the rich color absorbs and melts into skin.  It has a silky texture and it leaves skin around the delicate eye area smooth with a slight cooling effect.  So lovely.

Au Naturale Cosmetics Creme Shadow in Camo Deluxe Sample $18 (Full Size $24)

This is super pigmented, and a gorgeous green forest shade, no wonder it is called CAMO.  It has a creamy texture that I like to apply with my finger all over the bottom of my eyelid or use with a precision brush as a liner to make my hazel eyes pop.  Au Naturale has always been one of my favorite green beauty lines with a mission to get us stricter labeling laws with the #cleabeautyrevolution.  I can’t say enough good things about all their beautiful clean make up, see my collaboration with Teri Miyahira in the Guide to Au Naturale Cosmetics and learn more about the clean beauty revolution in my blog post here.

Bottom Line

I’m so impressed with Goodbeing monthly subscription box.  It is personalized.  Plus, they give full and deluxe sample sizes of quality green beauty and lifestyle brands.  The value is way over the price of the box, the November box had a value over $87 (insert happy face here).  This would make a great gift for someone that wants to green their routine or the eco person in your life.

Legislation/Take Action

Senate Bill 258 – Cleaning Up Cleaning Products

GPB SB 258 Safe Cosmetics

https://www.facebook.com/safecosmetics/photos

What do you mean all of our cleaning products aren’t safe?  That’s right, before my green beauty/living journey I thought products on the market, including cleaning products were safe.  Many of us believe that there are State or Federal laws protecting us and workers against harmful ingredients in our cleaning supplies.  However, these laws have been basically non-existant.  Now California is leading the way for safe cleaning products with Senate Bill 258 (SB 258) The Cleaning Product Right to Know Act of 2017.  This requires ingredient labeling on product labels and online for cleaning products sold in the state of California.  So, what does safe really mean anyway?

Black’s Law Dictionary defines “safe” as:

The amount of exposure that will cause no harm or damage after exposure.

Well safe products sounds good to me.  How about you?  I think we all expect our products not to cause any harm or damage to any one.  One of the first steps in making sure there is no harm is knowing what is in products we buy.  Although, I could argue the first step would be to stop making products with potentially harmful ingredients, but that is an entirely different rabbit hole to go down.

SB 258 will require manufacturers to list all the ingredients in Cleaning Supplies such as:

  • dish soaps
  • disinfectants
  • stain removers
  • laundry detergents
  • air fresheners, disinfectants
  • all purpose cleaners
  • glass cleansers

This Bill was introduced by Senator Ricardo Lara February 18, 2017 due to the awareness that cleaning products can contain thousands of chemicals, many of which are toxic and have been associated with cancer, asthma and other respiratory damage, skin allergies, and reproductive, developmental and hormonal changes.

This is such a great step in the right direction to have transparency about ingredients.  This allows all of us to make an informed decision whether we want to use a particular product.

Bottom Line

We have the right to know what ingredients are in our cleaning products.  Actually, there should be transparency of ingredients with all of our products everywhere.  Hoping other states and industries, such as cosmetics and fragrances will follow SB 258 with transparency.  Until then, let’s continue to vote with our dollars, read labels and demand companies at least tell us what ingredients are in their products and then we can make the decision whether we want to purchase and use their product or not.

Habit Nail Polish in Lush $18

GPB BTB Habit with card

This month included a full size super pretty HABIT nail polish in LUSH.  A purple/grape color.  Really fun for fall or the end of summer.  I don’t paint my nails very often, but when I do I use safer nail polish like HABIT.   Their formula is free of the nasty chemicals found in conventional nail polishes like:

  • Toluene
  • Formaldehyde resin
  • Camphor
  • TPP
  • DBP
  • Isobutylphoexy Epoxy Resin
  • Xylene
  • Parabens

The vibrant color is trendy and long lasting (I’ve had one coat on for about 4 days and no chipping).  Love that HABIT is also PETA-Certified as vegan and cruelty-free.  Made with Mryhh Extract to strengthen nails and has anti fungal and bacterial properties.  Plus, it comes in glass bottle with sustainable bamboo overcap, which uses less plastic.
