BACK TO BASICS BOX SEPTEMBER

GPB BTB Sept box 1

Back To Basics

Are you looking for an Eco-Home and Green Beauty monthly box?  Then look to Back to Basics. As a subscription box specialist (aka obsessed) I was searching for a subscription that would help me on my green beauty and eco-home journey.  Enter Back to Basics Chic Chica Box, which is one of the few on the market that specializes in safer products for home and beauty for men and women.

Every month I get the Eco Chic Chica box for $29.99 plus shipping.  It contains 2 green beauty items and 2 household/lifestyle items and information cards that describe why the cleaner product in the box is safer compared to conventional products or “The Other Junk”.  Back to Basics also has the Go Green Gents box for men and a Household Combo box, plus a shop to buy all the goodies featured in their boxes.  Learn more about their monthly subscription boxes here.  You can also check out my other reviews for June, July & AugustMay, April, and March.

This month’s box featured:

Habit Nail Polish in Lush $18

GPB BTB Habit with card

This month included a full size super pretty HABIT nail polish in LUSH.  A purple/grape color.  Really fun for fall or the end of summer.  I don’t paint my nails very often, but when I do I use safer nail polish like HABIT.   Their formula is free of the nasty chemicals found in conventional nail polishes like:

  • Toluene
  • Formaldehyde resin
  • Camphor
  • TPP
  • DBP
  • Isobutylphoexy Epoxy Resin
  • Xylene
  • Parabens

The vibrant color is trendy and long lasting (I’ve had one coat on for about 4 days and no chipping).  Love that HABIT is also PETA-Certified as vegan and cruelty-free.  Made with Mryhh Extract to strengthen nails and has anti fungal and bacterial properties.  Plus, it comes in glass bottle with sustainable bamboo overcap, which uses less plastic.

GPB BTB Habit

The Optimist Co. Organic Castile Soap Unscented 8 oz. $6.50

GPB BTB soap

This multitasking concentrated soap is made with simple clean ingredients, which include:  saponified organic oils of coconut, olive, and jojoba, organic aloe vera, & organic rosemary extract.  Castile soap goes a long way, it can be diluted in another bottle with water or add essential oils for fragrance.  So many ways to use this soap:

  • Hand Soap
  • Body Wash
  • Dish Soap
  • Pet Wash
  • Produce Wash
  • Laundry Soap
  • Cleaner-floors, countertop, rug and carpet, toys, bathroom

The amber jar can be recycled and the amber color helps protects the essential oils inside.  Such a great product.  Plus, The Optimist has more safe cleaning/laundry products and DIY sets to choose from, just check out their shop here.  I’ve used a few of their products, thanks to BTB boxes, and they are all made with simple, clean ingredients and work.

Back To Basics Glass Bottle

GPB BTB bottle

This re-usable glass bottle was included in this box with the back to basics sticker.  Love it!  I immediately mixed the Optimist Castile Soap, water and a few drops of essential oil to make liquid hand soap for my bathroom.

GPB BTB soap and bottle

Rare Essence Aromatherapy Organic Bergamot Essential Oil-Citrus bergamia 5ml $10.52

GPB rare essence

This has a lovely citrus aroma, which picks me up and smell so good.  Made in small batches with essential oils consciously-sourced worldwide.  The essential oil is in an amber glass bottle that can be recycled, plus cruelty-free.

FACE MASK ALCHEMY – FIRST BOX EVER

GPB FMA 1

Face Mask Alchemy

Are you a skin mask addict?  I’m obsessed with skin care and dry face masks.  If you’re a skin care connoisseur or if you’re new to face masks or green beauty then this new monthly subscription box is for you.  It’s made with the clean ingredients, affordable, and you can tell all the heart and soul that goes into everything from the creator and alchemist herself Marie.

Marie is the beauty and brains behind Face Mask Alchemy.  She is so knowledgeable and funny and did I mention smart (she’s a nurse so when she talks chemistry listen, she knows her stuff)?  What I love is she gives us all the tools to be successful with our self care ritual/discovery.  Included with every monthly subscription is a tip sheet, a list of all the ingredients, how and what products to mix with the mask, and how to apply it.  Plus Marie makes a you tube video going through the ingredients, the “why “behind the ingredients and how they work on our skin, how to use the mask, alchemy tricks/tips and you can see what the mask looks like on.  I’ve been masking for a long time now, but feel like I’m learning new information from all her wisdom (my face mask painting is getting better too).

If you’re not already following Marie, go find her now at Instagram:  @andthecolorgreen & @facemaskalchemy and her You Tube:  And the Color Green.

Face Mask Alchemy Monthly subscription $10.88

The June and July box were $12.00, however going forward, the August box will now be $10.88 for 22 grams of dry face mask.  Marie indicated on Face Mask Alchemy Instagram that she always wanted to get the subscritpion box to ten dollars and I can’t believe she has done it.  Such a steal, clean ingredients that work.

This monthly subscription box is different than other subscriptions out there (believe me I’ve been subscribed to so many, my husband would say too many) because they provide enough product to mask 3-5 times in a month so the product is gone by the time the next month’s dry face mask arrives at your door.  Love it!

Not only will all the masks be made with clean ingredients, organic when available, their packaging is eco-friendly.  Their containers are recycled post consumer resin plastic.  Plus their mailers (see pic below) and labels are made from 100% recycled materials.  A win win for us and our environment!

Now on to the First Face Mask Alchemy Box- June

June:  Surfer Girl

GPB FMA mixed with RPB

The Surfer Girl was the first dry face mask for Face Mask Alchemy.  So fitting for the ultimate surfer girl herself (I’m talking about Marie).  It was handmade in Maui with clean ingredients like:

  • sea clay
  • organic coconut milk powder
  • acacia fiber
  • 2.5% organic tapioca maltodetrin
  • organic hibiscus powder
  • organic aloe gel powder
  • organic none fruit powder

GPB FMA 2

The subscription box includes the information card and tips and recipes see pics below.

GPB FMA Tips 1

FMA Tips

FMA recommends to always do a patch test first to make sure you’re not sensitive to the ingredients. The information and tip/recipe sheets give detailed directions.

The first time I used Surfer Girl I mixed 2 teaspoons of the dry mask in my shell masking bowl (of course) with 2-3 teaspoons of water.  I used my brush to easily apply the mask.  I left it on for about 20 minutes while misting with a facial mist to keep the mask from getting dry.  As you can see from the pictures below, the mask has a red color from the hibiscus and a tropical vibe.  It left my skin feeling so clean, soft and smooth.   So good!

GPB FMA me

The next week I followed Face Alchemy Recipe for parched or sensitive skin (hmm…mature):  I mixed 2 teaspoons of Surfer Girl with 2 teaspoons of water and then 3-4 drops of Honua Skincare Beauty Oil.  This mask can be mixed with any favorite face oil.  After washing off the mask with warm water, my skin felt lightly exfoliated.  It left my skin soft, smooth and with a pretty glow.

GPB FMA me 2

Can you tell every time I use Face Mask Alchemy I’m feeling the tropical vibe?  Which flower will I wear next time?  What will I mix it with next?  Alchemy is so much fun and wearing flowers.

Face Mask Alchemy Masking Kit $18.00 sold separately (right now it is out of stock-maybe FMA will make more?)

Aloha @facemaskalchemy Masking Kit I can't wait to use these with the new monthly subscription box Face Mask Alchemy by the lovely and knowledgeable Marie @andthecolorgreen . The shell masking bowl just feels so right for all the masking treats coming soon (I just don't know if I can use these with masks by other brands right now- would that be considered face mask cheating?!?) . The kit includes: The handmade white shell masking bowl -so pretty Black bamboo spoon- always great to use a spoon to scoop & mix products Masking brush- love using brushes to apply face masks more evenly (always using my mask painting skills) Fine Mist Spritzer 0.35 ml . . Happy Monday and Happy Masking . . . #greenbeauty #greenliving #greenbeautyblogger #greenbeautybloggers #greenpassionbeauty #maskaddict #maskitmonday #naturalblog #naturalbeauty #naturalbeautybox #naturalbeautyblogger #naturalbeautybloggers #naturalmask #cleanliving #cleanbeauty #facemaskalchemy #diyfacemasks #subscriptionbox #bbloggers #skincareritual #skincarekit

The minute I saw this beautiful tropical inspired masking kit, I knew I had to have it for my masking ritual, especially when using Face Mask Alchemy masks.  There is just something about the shell bowl and brush that brings masking to a whole new level for me.

The set includes:

  • a beautiful white shell masking bowl-loving it
  • black bamboo spoon- for scooping and mixing products
  • masking brush- helps apply masks more evenly and feels like a spa treatment
  • 0.35 ml fine mist spritz bottle- to prevent mask from drying

Bottom Line

I know that this was the first month, but I am so impressed.  I love FMA’s concept-a new mask every month.  Plus all the tips and tricks Marie provides us with in the subscription, on the Face Mask Alchemy site, and her You Tube videos.  She’s real (not offering miracle masks, but masks that work) and tells us what the mask can do for us by breaking down the ingredients so we can understand how it works and the reasoning behind every ingredient she uses in her masks.  Plus the eco-freindly packaging, labeling.  Most of all the mask works and is affordable luxury.  I would definitely recommend this subscription box!   I can’t wait for next month, and the next month, and can’t wait to see all the future boxes from Face Mask Alchemy.

Are you subscribed?  If not you can subscribe here.  Until next month, Happy Masking and Face Mask Alchemy!!!

Back to Basics

I look forward to receiving my Back to Basics Box every month.  It is one of my favorite eco subscription boxes.  With all the amazing green beauty boxes out there, this one is different because it has both green beauty and eco-home.  So good.  I’ve been subscribed to this box for a few months now.  The cost is $29.99 for the Eco Chic Chica plus shipping and there are other subscriptions for Household Combo and Go Green Gent read more about them here, plus see my reviews of the March and April boxes.

Not only are the products great, Ashleigh, the founder tests all the products out and gives information cards with each product about why the conventional products can contain potential harmful ingredients called “The Other Junk”.  She compares the alternative safer product to “The Other Junk”.  Super helpful for everyone, whether new to cleaner living or just trying to find some new safer effective products.

Now lets get into the details [Hint…the May box was fabulous as usual]

The OPTIMIST Room & Air Spray $6.50

GPB BTB Optimist May

Smells so good, light floral aroma and works to fight odor (hello- I have a 5 year old and two little doggies).  I used this everywhere in my house.  Rooms, bathroom, laundry room, even on couches.  As always, The OPTIMIST uses simple, clean ingredients:  distilled water; organic apple cider vinegar; organic castile soap; and pure lavender essential oil.

I’ve had the opportunity to try a few products from The OPTIMIST now thanks to Back to Basics Box (please keep them coming) and I’m so impressed with everything- so affordable and works.  They stay true to ingredients we can recognize, plus no parabens, no phthalates, and no synthetic fragrances.  Makes this momma happy I don’t have to worry about my daughter being in the same room when cleaning.

Green & Gorgeous Organic Dry Shampoo Travel Size $7.99 & Organic Dry Shampoo Powder Brush-Travel Size $4.99

GPB BTB Organic Dry 1

Lavender & Bergamont Organic Dry Shampoo- this travel size dry shampoo is so great for dirty hair.  A little goes a long way to make the grease disappear.  I like applying with the cruelty-free bamboo handled brush.  The brush makes it easier to blend in and less mess.  The dry shampoo has a light scent and blends in with my blonde hair.  It is vegan, organic, sulfate and fragrance free.  I really like travel sizes when it comes to dry shampoos and this one comes in this scent plus they have Grapefruit + Sweet Orange and one for Dark Brown + Oily Hair, to learn more check out their shop.

GPB BTB Organic Dry 2

Essential Oxygen Hydrogen Peroxide $6.39

GPB BTB Hydrogen P

This is a multi-use disinfectant.  It is Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide.  It can be used for so many things like: first aid; household services; laundry whitener; plants, pets; baby gear; and food wash.  I like to use mine to get my bathroom sinks and shower an extra clean.  Plus there is no strong odor, it really doesn’t leave any odor.

Herbivore Pink Clay Soap $12 & Soap Tray ~$5-10

GPB Back to Basics Herbivore Pink

This is a very gentle pink clay soap that can be used everywhere.  I use it to wash my face, body, hands.  The soap makes a great lather and feels so soft and clean without a stripping feeling.  I adore bars of soap, especially when they are luxurious like this one.  Plus it is pink, made from clean ingredients and makes me feel pampered.  Such a pretty combination with the wood soap tray.

Bottom Line

The May Back to Basics Box was a win for me.  I enjoyed using everything in the box (as always), but my fave finds were The OPTIMIST Room & Air Spray and The Herbivore Pink Clay soap.  If you’re looking for a great box with eco home/lifestyle and green beauty this is the one I would suggest.  Affordable, quality products with Ashleigh’s research and explanations of why these products are safer than “The Other Junk”!  Back to Basics help us switch out toxic products one box at a time.

Thinksport Insulates Sports Bottle 17 ounce (500 ml)  $19.99 and Thinksport Coffee Top $5.99

GPB BTB April @017 ThinkSport

I received the Insulated Sports Bottle in Mint Green (how did you know Mint Green is one of my fave colors?).  Colors varied for subscribers-they have so many shades.  The Sports Bottle is made with no BPA, BPS, lead or other biologically harmful ingredients.   This is one of my favorite items in the box, I’m using it all the time.  It can hold hot and cold drinks.  It has a removable mesh filter that keeps ice from rushing to the opening.  Such a great idea-especially for my little one so she doesn’t get all the ice when she drinks.  The Sports Bottle has gone everywhere with me-on walks, workouts, hikes and just easy to stick in my bag because it is so lightweight. The design makes it easy to hold and it keeps my water nice and cold in the Texas heat.

The Optimistic Bright Side Window Cleaner $6

GPB BTB Optimist bright

I’m always happy to see the Optimist’s products in a subscription box because I’ve heard so many great reviews about them in the eco-clean world and I’ve been getting a chance to try many of their products lately.  The Optimist company is committed to:

Using ingredients that are kind to the planet, our home, and our bodies

They believe

Small changes can create a significant impact

Made with simple ingredients that one can actually pronounce:  distilled water, white vinegar, essential oil blend of tea and eucalyptus.  I like how it works on glass/windows and mirrors without causing streaks and leaves a aroma of eucalyptus (not the overpowering smell that many conventional cleaning products can leave).

GPB BTB April Optimist back

Such a lovely affordable product and the glass bottle can be re-used, recycled, biodegradable and is effective.

Organic Fiji Sugar Scrub– Fragrance Free $30

GPB BTB April Fiji

GPB BTB Fiji back

This is huge jar, it has 20 ounces of scrub goodness.  Made with USDA certified organic extra virgin, cold pressed coconut oil mixed with organic sugar cane for a full body exfoliation.  It can be used all over, as a scrub on face & body.  When I first went to use the scrub it was in a solid form, which is typical of cold pressed coconut.  All I had to do was place the jar under warm water and like magic the consistency changed to a soft scrub.   See pictures below:

GPB BTB Fiji 2

GPB BTB Fiji 3

It gives a gentle exfoliation to help smooth and hydrate skin.  Seriously makes skin feel so nourished, like a treatment for my skin.  Plus, Organic Fiji is made with fair trade ethics, organic clean ingredients, non GMO, cruelty- free , gives back to Mother Earth through Surfrider and so much more.

VERDICT

I truly enjoy using everything in this eco-home/lifestyle green beauty box.  You can tell all the heart Ashleigh puts into curating Back to Basics Boxes every month with quality brands, clean ingredients, and the value always exceeds the cost.   Are you subscribed?  See any favorite products?

GLOWING BEETS- year in review

February 2016

Glowing Beets

Are you ready to get your natural glow on with Glowing Beets monthly treats delivered right to your door?  Seriously, one of my favorites at such a great price point too.  Glowing Beets is a monthly subscription box service made to discover natural beauty products for healthy living.  I’ve been subscribed to Glowing Beets for over a year and they always have such a great variety of clean green beauty products for only $29.95 a month plus shipping.   They also have a shop where you can buy clean beauty products that were featured in their boxes.

Glowing Beets describes their subscription to include:

3-4 deluxe-sized samples or full size beauty products made with clean, non-toxic ingredients. These samples are designed for you to try (do you like the scent, the texture, performance and/or are you allergic to any of the ingredients) before committing to full size products.

Glowing Beets believes:

You don’t have to sacrifice your health in the name of beauty. We do the research to bring you clean, non-toxic and cruelty-free beauty products comprised of the finest ingredients, so you can indulge in luxurious skincare and cosmetic products without the worries of toxic chemicals.

I’ve been so impressed with Glowing Beets because they have always included full size quality green beauty brands with some deluxe samples.  Every box comes with an information card with details about the products, some special collaborations, and lots of discount offers too.  So good!

Below you will see a year in review with approximate value of all the Glowing Beets boxes I’ve received with some mini reviews.  I think subscription boxes are such a great way to try green beauty products whether you’re a green beauty devotee or newbie and trying to detox your skincare and cosmetics.  As a green beauty box collector, I like to look at as many months as I can of that box to see if the box is right for me before I subscribe.  I look for the quality/variety of products, whether they are full size or samples, cost, do I use the products, the overall value.  Remember subscription boxes can be amazing one month and the next month might not be as great.  We are all different and it is a risk one takes with mystery subscription boxes, but I think Glowing Beets is well worth it.  Now let’s get on to the goods.

Lifestyle/Eco Fashion, Subscription Boxes

GET BACK TO BASICS- ONE BOX AT A TIME

GPB Back to Basics Box 1

If you know me, you know I adore a good green beauty subscription box, however, there aren’t very many home or lifestyle boxes out there.  So when I saw Back to Basics I knew I had to try it.  Finding effective home alternatives to conventional products has been a long process and I’m still working on it.  I’m on a constant search for the right eco-home products.  Enter some help with the Back to Basics, which includes clean products for home/lifestyle plus green beauty, yes please!!!.

Back to Basics was founded by Ashleigh a homeopath and wellness expert with the intention:

To make the world aware of how the toxins that are in most consumer products can affect you…and your sister…and your babysitter…and your boss…and your dog…and well, everyone!

Ashleigh wondered why everyone was so sick from their environment and set out to bring awareness to improve health and eliminate all the toxic products that are destroying everyones wellbeing.  She’s hoping to get us back to the basics with cleaner, greener products one Back to Basics box at a time.

Back to Basics has a few monthly subscription boxes to choose from, the Eco Chic Chica, which includes carefully curated, researched and tested products by Ashleigh.  This box is $29.99 plus shipping and includes 4 products: 2 women’s beauty/body/skincare products + 2 home/cleaning products.  The second box is the Go Green Gent- a box for men with 2 men’s body/self-care products + 2 home/cleaning products for $29.99 plus shipping.   Lastly, the Household Combo with a total of 6 products: 2 women’s + 2 men’s + 2 home/cleaning products for $45.99 plus shipping.  I purchased the Eco Chic Chica box, but I might have to try out the Household Combo to get some clean products for the hubs.  Find out more about the monthly subscription boxes here.  Plus every product comes with an information card comparing the safer alternative to conventional products, pro tips, information about the ingredients and or product.  Did I mention they also have a shop to buy the products they feature in their monthly box?

Now onto my first Back to Basics box-it comes with different compartments for the products and the information cards inside.  So organized!!!

Herbivore Blue Tansy $48

GPB BTB Blue Tansy all

GPB RTB Blue Tansy

Look at this beautiful Blue Tansy Resurfacing Mask.  This is soothing and anti-inflammatory made from blue tansy oil, fruit enzymes, and white willow bark.  This is my second jar of Blue Tansy, but it felt like the first time I tried this because it was so long ago and this time I made sure to follow Herbivore’s directions and tip card (how about that?  Following directions works!!!).   This product alone was more than the price of the box, making everything else a bonus, you know what I mean?  I used it for 3-4 days in a row (per directions), applied a thin layer with the spatula included, and kept on for about 15-20 minutes each time.   It felt cooling and a little tingle when I first applied, but then the sensation went away.  I noticed smoother skin after the initial masking and now I just use it once a week with great results.  Have you tried this mask? I can’t get over the color-so lovely and the light sweet/herbal aroma.

Truce Clean – Wood Cleaner $7.55

GPB BTB TruceGPB BTB Truce ingredients

This citrusy smelling wood cleaner can be used daily as a dusting spray on all types of surfaces or for a deeper clean on wood surfaces.  It’s working on all my wood furniture and it’s made with safe ingredients like Olive Oil, Essential Oils (citrus & lemon), Distilled White Vinegar, and Guar Gum.  I just had to add water to the bottle and then the spray cleaner was ready to go-simple!   It does need to be mixed up prior to using and every few minutes when using.  Overall, I really like the wood cleaner and refills are available or the bottle can be recycled when it’s gone.

Full Circle Pulp Friction Dusting Cloths $4.99

GPB BTB Dusting Cloths

GPB BTB Dust full

These are made from 100% natural plant based pulp & non-toxic dyes.  They are thick, soft, and work great to dust surfaces, including wood and electronics.  Plus they are machine washable.  These are such a great find and affordable!

Essential Oxygen Brushing Rinse $4.60

GPB BTB Brushing Rinse peppermint

GPB BTB Rinse back of bottle

The Essential Oxygen Brushing Rinse is described as part toothpaste and part mouthwash.  It is a clear liquid with a light peppermint taste.   It’s made with clean and organic ingredients to whiten teeth, for fresher breath and much more.   I like to use it as a mouthwash.  It makes my teeth feel clean and keeps them white.

So impressed with my first Back to Basics box.  It was full of clean home products I haven’t used before that are affordable and effective, plus green beauty.   If you’re looking for a combo box with green beauty and eco-home/lifestyle products Back to Basics is one of the few out there.  I can’t wait to see everything in the April box.  What did you think?  Are you subscribed?  Any products you hope to see in a future box?  Please share in comments-thank you.

Subscription Boxes

Organic Bunny Box-hello glamorous girl with a green heart

Organic Bunny Box

The Organic Bunny Box is the love passion/brain child of The Organic Bunny, Amanda Jo.  Most people have heard of this amazing green beauty advocate and follow her on Instagram  (that’s how I found her) and been to her blog The Organic Bunny for great tips on organic, green beauty, safer products and reviews, if not go find her now.  Thank goodness she ventured into the subscription box world.  Seriously one of the best out there if you’re looking for safe glamorous and everyday beauty (and believe me I’ve tried so many subscription boxes-my husband would say too many).

What’s in the box???  According to Organic Bunny:

Once a month The Organic Bunny Box delivers Non-Toxic, Natural and Organic beauty products conveniently to your door. Each box contains 6-8 products in medium to full sizes, some smaller samples may be included as extra goodies. We are not fans of small samples so rest assured, the items in this box will be big enough to provide you with the full product experience!

All products are Cruelty-Free, over 98% Natural, always Non-Toxic and made with Organic ingredients as frequently as possible. I will always try to provide an amazing mix of items, including but not limited to: Natural makeup, perfume, skin and body care, with occasional healthy treats and eco-friendly products.

I’ve been subscribed to Organic Bunny Box since December 2015 and have been incredibly impressed.  Not only are there products that I’ve wanted to try but products/brands I didn’t know existed and are so good.  Also, love the glamourous eco-chic boxes they come in and the bag for September month.   I use these boxes to store my make-up, journals/cards, products and also to give as gifts with clean goodies inside.  I decided to write about all the Organic Bunny Boxes I’ve received with mini reviews (you might see a more detailed monthly review soon or for future boxes).  I know when I’m trying to decide if I want to subscribe to a box I look at previous months, so I wanted to make it easy for you to see everything offered in the Organic Bunny Box each month in one spot.  I’ve only missed the first 2 months (insert sad face here).

The pricing varies depending on what subscription you pick- for monthly subscription it is $59 and you save some money if you opt for the 3 month subscription for $167 or 6 month subscription for $330.  Click here for more details.

Can you see why The Organic Bunny Box is one of my favorite clean beauty subscription boxes and one of Thoughtfully Magazine’s Top 6?  Such a great variety of clean beauty/clean living products and fabulous value.  Some of the products I couldn’t determine the exact value, but you can see the approximate value of each product and each box was well over the $59 per month cost.  As a subscription box collector, I know that some months are going to be better than others and that is what you should except with any subscription box.  But overall, I’m always happy with this glamorous box, plus I can use everything in them.  The Organic Bunny Box would make a great Holiday/Birthday/Self care gift for someone new to clean beauty or the green beauty enthusiast.   Do you subscribe?  What was your favorite Organic Bunny Box month?  Do you want to see monthly (more detailed) reviews?  Please leave comments below.  Thank you.

Beauty Heroes November 2015: Josh Rosebrook

IMG_5364

Beauty Heroes is a non-toxic beauty service delivered monthly, one hero product at at time for $39.00 a month for non-toxic beauty products.  Beauty Heroes is different from other beauty boxes because they give a full-size product or products and side kick.  I just joined Beauty Heroes, but I’m already a big fan of what they are doing.  They rotate between skin, body, sun and haircare products and you can also skip a month or buy a 3 or 6 month subscription to save a little money.  Beauty Heroes members also receive 15% off products in their shop.  Fabulous!

Each box comes with the information booklet regarding the Hero Product and sidekick.  Also inside is a pocket guide with a list of “Villain” ingredients to avoid in products.  Love this.  This is so handy to keep in your purse or bag to check product labels for nasty ingredients or “Villains.”

Josh Rosebrook

I can’t say enough about Josh Rosebrook Balance Shampoo and Conditioner.  I’ve been getting so many compliments on my hair lately.  It really does matter what ingredients go into products.  Beauty Heroes described Josh Rosebrook as using an holistic approach to skin and hair care.  As a hairstyist, Josh realized the body’s ability to heal itself after he created his first product, the cacoa antioxidant face mask.  He studied plants and their capacities to restore and repair hair which lead to his hair products line.  Fueled by his passion to make people feel better, more beautiful and confident, Josh works with a team of phyto-chemists and herbalists to develop high-performing skin care and hair care formulas.

On Josh Rosebrook’s website the Balance Shampoo and Conditioner are $30 each.  So with Beauty Heroes you get both products plus sidekick Hairspray for $39 what a steal!

The Balance Shampoo and conditioning duo finely tunes all hair types to optimal balance.  It’s light weight and doesn’t leave my hair weighed down or greasy.  These are made with organic extracts of allow vera, hemp, jojoba and flax seed and many other natural ingredients.  The Balance Shampoo and Conditioner are a lightweight combination of coconut, shea, olive and meadow foam plant oils.  Also infused in these beauties are rose-hip and rose essential oils which are usually reserved for high-end face care formulas.  No wonder I really love Josh Rosebrook.

You only need to use a small amount of shampoo to cover hair and scalp so the shampoo lasts a long time.  After massaging thoroughly it can be left in the hair for 3 minutes to stimulate follicles and nourish scalp.  I only do this a few times a week, but my hair feels really soft after.  I’ve tried other natural shampoos and this is my favorite because it cleans without stripping my hair and maybe because it does feel more like what I’m used to.  I follow this by the conditioner, which should be applied mid-shaft to ends of hair, but sometimes I forget.  The conditioner can also be left on for up to three minutes,  Like a mini spa day or “spa in the shower”.  Lastly, the sidekick Hair Spray Firm Hold was a great addition to this box.  It works to control hair styles who encouraging strong hair growth.  It’s natural and it works without the sticky feeling from conventional hair sprays.

If you’re looking for non-toxic amazing hair products check out Josh Rosebrook, the Balance Shampoo and Conditioner is my favorite so far.  I would also recommend Beauty Heroes, it’s such a great way to explore the green beauty world and get safe non-toxic products that are expert tested and really work.

Petit Vour November 2015

GPB Petit Vour Nov

Petit Vour is one of my favorite non-toxic, cruelty + vegan ethically made beauty products monthly subscription box.  Petit Vour caters their boxes to beauty devotees interested in living a more compassionate lifestyle.  They deliver 4 personalized beauty products in samples, usually deluxe and sometimes (most of the time) include a full sized product.  This is a great way to try to figure out if you like the products before you splurge for the full sized or if you’re trying to change to non-toxic beauty products.  The monthly box only costs $15 a month, unless you live in Texas, then you pay taxes (poor us-still worth it).

Modern Minerals Lotus Wei Infused Emotive Lip Gloss “Violet Rose” Full Size $24

GPB PV nov lipgloss

This is a gorgeous color lip gloss called “Violet Rose.”  It’s a violet mauve with pink and lavender shimmer, but I think it probably looks different on everyone.  I’m more of a lipstick or lip whip type of gal, but I really like this lip gloss because of the shade and it’s not sticky.    When I first put it on there is a scent, not quite sure how to describe-kind of floral, but then it goes away.  The lip gloss is a collaboration between Modern Minerals and Lotus Wei.  They created  a special lip gloss infusion of pink camellia flowers and pink tourmaline gemstone.  The gloss infusion is a special MOODS collection, an emotive formula that helps to magnify Love of Life, Inner strength, Compassion and Living in the Present Moment.  Hmm…sounds good to me.  The lip gloss comes in four different shades:  Violet Rose (I received this one); Coral Glow; B of Love (Pink); and Love of Attraction (Clear).  I really want to try them all, especially the B of Love, which is from an appreciation for the poem by E.E. Cummings, “Be of Love.” I digress-moving on.

One Love Organics Healthy Locks Dry Shampoo Powder Value $12/Full-sixe $29

GPB Petit Vour Nov ONe love

I’m already a big fan of One Love Organic products and love to see their products in subscription boxes.  The One Love Organics Healthy Locks Dry Shampoo Powder works great if you like using dry shampoos.  The powder is white, but not clumpy and doesn’t turn my roots white.  The powder also smells good too.  It is a unique blend of Georgia Kaolin Clay, hyularonic acid, and silica rich bamboo extract.  A little sprinkle of powder goes a long way to help lift and nourish hair between shampoos.  To use just sprinkle a tiny amount onto your hands or apply directly to scalp, let it sit for three minutes, massage into scalp, and brush through.  This size is great for travel too.

Pelle Beauty Luxe Beauty Balm $9 value/Full-size $65

GPB PV LUXE beauty balm Nov

This is described as a super-emolient and easily absorbed beauty balm that keeps skin soft, smooth, and protected.  The balm is free from water, preservatives, dyes, fillers & synthetic fragrances.  It’s formulated with floral waxes, essential oils and antioxidant ingredients.  This can be used any time you need it and a little goes a long way.  Apply to face & neck after cleansing and using your beauty mist to seal in moisture. It can also be applied as a spot treatment onto drier areas of the face that require more protection.  I really like balms and Pelle Beauty Luxe Beauty Balm is lovely.

Organic Bath Co Stress Less Organic Body Oil $2.25 value/Full-size $45

GPB pv OBC stress less body oil

This is the first time I’ve received anything from the Organic Bath Co. in a subscription box and I was excited to try it.  The sample oil is lightly scented and absorbs quickly.  Body oil is a must for me during these cold days and I really like that this oil is light weight  (not greasy) and doesn’t have an overpowering scent.  The oil is scented with pure Bulgarian Lavender and a blend of calming essential oils. It is hand crafted in small batches and gluten and vegan free.

The November Petit Vour did not disappoint, as usual.  I can’t say enough about the curation of Petit Vour boxes.  I also love that I can earn points to buy products in their shop with product reviews and every time you shop their cruelty free shop they give 20% back in store credit.  If you’re going to try a non-toxic, vegan subscription box I would highly recommend Petit Vour.  Just click here for more information.
